BFA Roundtable: Beyond Pledges - Bridging COP30 and COP31

Brazil–Australia–Pacific Dialogue on Delivering the Action Agenda for 1.5°C

As the world prepares for COP30 in Brazil and looks toward a possible Australia-Pacific-hosted COP31, this dialogue explores how the COP30 Action Agenda can help shape a credible, inclusive, and equity-led COP in 2026.

While formal COP negotiations focus on state-to-state diplomacy, the Action Agenda mobilises non-Party stakeholders — from business and finance to Indigenous and local leaders — to deliver tangible climate solutions aligned with the Paris Agreement and the Global Stocktake.

This session will share insights and reflections from Brazilian partners on the COP30 Action Agenda — a Presidency-led platform for mobilising non-state actors to scale up implementation across energy, food, nature, and cities. Grounded in the principle of “action that begins and ends with people”, the COP30 Action Agenda is focused on:

  • Aligning with global agreements like the Paris Agreement and Global Stocktake

  • Driving equity, justice and community-led climate solutions

  • Ensuring delivery with integrity, not just more pledges

We’ll explore how these lessons can inform a COP31 Action Agenda grounded in:

  • Brazil’s leadership on inclusion, Indigenous voice, and delivery

  • Pacific priorities on finance, resilience, and Indigenous knowledge

  • Australian pathways for aligning NDC ambition with multilevel governance

  • The role of universities, local government,  business and civil society

From Dialogue to Action: Shaping an Advisory for COP31

This webinar will also serve as the first step in co-designing a multi-sectoral advisory document to the incoming COP31 Presidency. The document will:

  • Reflect key lessons from COP30’s Action Agenda.

  • Recommend ways to localise and strengthen delivery through Australian and Pacific priorities.

  • Propose an “Australia–Pacific Implementation Track” within the Action Agenda.

  • Share sectoral insights, case studies, and transparency tools to guide real-world outcomes.

This is a critical opportunity for Australian and Pacific non-state actors to contribute to the shape and substance of COP31, and ensure that the Presidency reflects the needs, strengths, and leadership of our region.

We value your insights and participation. If you have ideas or would like to get more involved, please contact us or join an upcoming sector working group meeting.
