Better Futures Australia

Dear Friend,

This Earth Day, we’re reminded that the journey to a climate-resilient, zero-emissions Australia is powered by all of us—our shared efforts, our partnerships, and our collective commitment to a healthier, better future.

This year’s Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, speaks directly to the Better Futures Australia community. Across every sector, more businesses, investors, organisations and community leaders are stepping up to be part of the solution, working together to shape the path forward.

As we pass the halfway mark in Australia's election campaign, climate and energy policy remain key issues of public interest. Proposals under discussion include a national household battery program to support electrification and reduce energy bills (ABC News), as well as new investment in nuclear power (SBS News). These developments reflect the growing national conversation on Australia’s energy transition—and the practical pathways to a cleaner, more affordable and secure future.

Yet major questions remain—most notably, how either major party will approach fossil fuel phase-out and deliver a credible pathway to a clean economy.

Now is a pivotal moment to ensure climate ambition is front and centre in the first 100 days of the next government. At BFA, we’re working with partners across the economy to ensure the real economy is heard—and that commitments translate into clear, coordinated action. From clean industry investment and nature protection to inclusive governance and regional resilience, we’re advocating for a policy environment that’s consistent, transparent, and focused on the long-term interests of all Australians.

👉 Join us Wednesday April 30th for the Q2 Multi-Sectoral Roundtable and help shape what comes next.

🌏 ON OUR AGENDA 🌏

/// FEDERAL AMBITION & THE ROAD AHEAD

Last month's federal budget introduced some welcome initiatives in clean industry and electrification. However, many priorities raised by BFA members—like public transport, social housing upgrades, nature-based solutions and community resilience—remain underfunded or overlooked.

With strong alignment growing across sectors, now is the time for practical, coordinated policy that creates investment certainty and supports shared prosperity. Whether it’s through regional clean industry precincts or energy efficiency upgrades, the momentum is there—it just needs direction.

The first 100 days of the next government will be critical. We’ll be unpacking the implications and shaping next steps at the Roundtable on April 30.

/// IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Prime Minister Albanese has pledged that, if re-elected, Australia will co-host COP31 in Adelaide alongside Pacific nations—an important gesture of climate leadership and regional solidarity. Read more via ABC.

/// YOUTH STORYTELLERS SHIFT THE NARRATIVE

As part of Climate Action Week Sydney, BFA's Storytelling for Change workshop empowered young leaders to flip the script on climate action. BFA intern Andy J. Liu's article captures how storytelling is shifting mindsets, sparking action, and reducing eco-anxiety. The films produced by workshop participants focus on the need for faster clean energy adoption, climate resilience, and intergenerational justice ahead of COP31.
