Dr Daud Batchelor

Co-Founder of Islamic Thought, Legacy and Renewal (ITL&R) Group

Dr Daud Batchelor is a Climate Reality Leader and Adjunct Fellow at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies Malaysia, where he headed the Science, Technology and Environment Unit. 

Daud last year convened the 1st National Conference “Environmental Crisis and Our Obligations to Act: Teachings from Islam and Abrahamic Faiths,” held in Brisbane.

He has a multidisciplinary background with an MA and Diploma of Islamic Studies from the International Islamic University Malaysia. He was awarded a PhD from University Malaya and has a Master of Engineering Science in environmental management from Griffith University. 

He worked for environmental consultancy companies and MNCs, including heading the waste management unit of PETRONAS Malaysia. 

His multidisciplinary research focus includes the nexus between Islam and the environment. He co-edited the Springer book, “Islamic Perspectives on Science and Technology.”
