Cr HY William Chan

City of Sydney, Lord Mayoral governing team

Councillor HY William Chan is an architect, urban innovator, and a sustainability and housing rights leader. With experience in the design and innovation of cities, William has contributed to Australia’s most significant public space, social housing, rapid transit, infrastructure and community developments over the past decade.

At the City of Sydney, William serves on the Lord Mayoral governing team. He chairs the Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming, and the Transport, Heritage, Environment and Planning Committees. As an Executive of Climate Emergency Australia, he represents over 100 local governments accelerating a zero-carbon economy across the nation. From the UN General Assembly to the TEDx stage, William regularly shares his passion for citymaking and policymaking with the public. He is named on the Forbes 30 Under 30, in the top 20 on the Qantas Centenary '100 Inspiring Australians' list, and GreenBiz top 30 global sustainability leaders by the World Business Council for Sustainable Business.
