Working to restore a stable climate

prepare and adapt
to climate change impacts

while taking care
of people and place.

Who are we?

Climate Justice Union are hundreds of ordinary people working together to restore a stable climate, while taking care of people and place.

We are community members, mothers, fathers, children, doctors, drivers, farmers, fire-fighters, hairdressers, labourers, librarians, office workers, waitstaff and everyone else.

To achieve this, we take a community organising based approach to working in communities across Western Australia and in key local industries to build community-led action on climate change and inequality.

We work for climate justice, and that means our transition and actions must be fair and must result in better outcomes for ordinary people, especially those who are least privileged.

This must not be yet another exercise in colonialism and exploitation.

Climate justice means a positive future for First Nations people, for rural communities, for fossil fuel workers, for low-income communities, for people affected by extreme weather, and for all other people impacted by climate change.

Right now we are at a crossroads. Our society, economy and environment are going through rapid changes. Some of that change is scary, and rightly so.

But there are also opportunities for ordinary people to improve outcomes for ourselves and each other, for the environment and for the communities in which we all live and work. In both scenarios, our greatest strength is each other.

When human communities decide to stand in solidarity and act together, that is when we are at our very best. And that’s why we are Union.

Climate Justice Union members understand the scale of the challenge posed by the climate crisis, and the unfair economic systems which cause it.

If that sounds like you, join now.

Together, we can and will change those systems.

We are a community union and do not cover you in your workplace. All Climate Justice Union members are also encouraged to join the relevant industrial union. Click here to find your industrial Union.

We acknowledge that we begin our work as The Climate Justice Union on the Boodja (land) of the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We honour the Wadjuk people and their kin in other Nations and Country across these lands and waters, who have always cared for this place and all who lived here.

We acknowledge First Nations Elders past and present, and acknowledge that those of us living here, who came from across the seas, live on land that was taken, stolen. We acknowledge the responsibility that comes with this understanding and that we personally and collectively benefit from this theft.

As such, we all have a responsibility to decolonise ourselves, our lives and work, and to heal the harm these oppressive systems have inflicted.
